Fitness Job Descriptions

Weight Room Specialists are responsible for the daily operations of the Cardiovascular/Resistance Training (CRT) areas at Ambler Student Recreation Fitness Center including but not limited to providing a safe exercise environment; assisting patrons; enforcing policies; cleaning and organizing. Shifts include early morning, afternoon, evenings and/or late evenings during the week and weekend. A Weight Room Specialist must be certified in CPR/AED or become certified within four weeks after being appointed.  General knowledge and experience preferred in resistance training equipment and weight lifting technique.

Fitness Assessment Instructor is responsible for leading participants through a safe and effective Fitness Assessment known as the Fit4U program. The Instructors will need to have an extensive knowledge of health, fitness, computers, cardiovascular and strength equipment and fitness assessments. Fitness Assessment Instructor will work daytime and evening hours Monday- Friday, with some various weekend hours. Fitness Assessment Instructor must be certified in CPR or become certified within four weeks after being appointed.

Responsible for teaching various types of fitness classes within the KU FIT Program. An Instructor will possibly work morning, afternoon and evening hours Monday-Friday and / or various weekends. An Instructor must be certified in CPR or become certified within first four weeks after being appointed. All instructors must complete the in-house group fitness instructor training program or already hold a national certification in order to audition. Upon hire, KU Fit Group Fitness Instructors must obtain a national certification within one year of hire. Instructors must demonstrate a working knowledge of aerobics instruction, fitness safety at all times.

Trainers are responsible for leading participants through a safe and effective workout. It is the responsibility of the trainer to recruit his or her own participants. The trainer will keep a schedule of times available to train participants in the morning, evenings, and/or weekends. A personal training log must be filled out completely for each training session by the trainer and kept in the participant's folder. Trainers must be certified in CPR or becomes certified within the first four weeks of employment. In addition, prior experience is required and certification is preferred. Trainers must demonstrate a working knowledge of flexibility, cardiovascular and resistance training instruction, safety/spotting, fitness testing, and general nutrition.

Assist Coordinator of Fitness/ Wellness in programming for and administration of KU Fit. Program manager will work daytime and evening hours Monday- Friday, with some various weekend hours. Extensive knowledge of KU Recreation Services KU Fit Program and be able to demonstrate a working knowledge of flexibility, cardiovascular and resistance training instruction, safety/spotting, fitness testing, and general nutrition. Program Manager must hold a nationally certified group exercise instructor certification.

Assist Assistant Director of Fitness/Wellness in programming for and administration of Personal Training. Program manager will work daytime and evening hours Monday- Friday, with some various weekend hours. Extensive knowledge of KU Recreation Services Personal Training Program and be able to demonstrate a working knowledge of flexibility, cardiovascular and resistance training instruction, safety/spotting, fitness testing, and general nutrition. Program Manager must hold a nationally certified personal training certification.
