The following are nearby certification trainings and workshops. This list is not all-inclusive: Please review the description section below and visit the organization's website for other locations and specific details about the certification. The instructor is responsible for covering the cost to certify and maintain their certification.  The KU Fit program is in greater need of instructors who attend workshops and certifications that are bolded than those in non-bolded text. You may also get a general Group Fitness Certification through self-study, online preparation, or offered through KU Recreation Services. Having a Group Fitness Certification generally allows an instructor to teach more than one type of class without having to get multiple specialty certifications. Note: Attending a workshop or earning a certification does not guarantee hire.  For more information email kufit@ku.edu.

American Council on Exercise

The American Council on Exercise (ACE) offers NCCA accredited certifications including one to lead group fitness classes. These programs give a knowledge base of exercise science that allow you to understand how and why we move, leading you to properly program and design classes. Athletics and Fitness Association of America

Athletics and Fitness Association of America (AFAA) Group Ex Instructor Certification teaches how to “design, choreograph, and teach a class.” This program gives you the basics of instructing your own class and being knowledgeable about exercise and movement. Les Mills BodyPump

BodyPump Certification requires attending a 2-day training on Saturday from 8:00 am-6:00 pm and Sunday from 8:00 am-6:00 pm.  100% participation is required.  No late arrivals or early departures.  To learn more, click here.

Certification Training Cost: $290, no refunds. Includes DVD of the workout, CD with the music, choreography notes of the workout.

 SPECIAL NOTE: Your music and choreography will be mailed, and your tracks assignments emailed approximately 14 days before the training.  You must memorize your tracks 100% prior to the training.

This informative workshop gives instructors the tools to create inspiring vinyasa yoga classes that are founded on flow yet grounded in the safety of exercise science. The learning includes physical execution, transitions, and modifications to traditional yoga poses with an emphasis on effectiveness and safety. Dynamic vinyasa sequencing, flowing class formats, and transformative language for communicating the mind/body connection have made this the most popular vinyasa yoga style in the world today.

While most attendees have experience as either yoga students, teachers, therapists, or as fitness professionals, there are no prerequisites, only the desire to learn and commitment to attend.
