CRT Policies

  1. Proper athletic attire must be worn; rubber sole, closed heal and closed toe shoes are required at all times.
  2. No food or gum; closeable drink bottles only.
  3. Do not store personal items on floor or behind the CRT desk; utilize storage cubbies and/or lockers. It is recommended to lock up your personal items.  These lockers are not approved secured storage for handguns.  Individuals who choose to carry a concealed handgun must plan their day accordingly and transfer their handgun to an approved secure storage device in their vehicle or their residence before arriving to use these lockers.
  4. Wipe equipment with disinfectant before and after use.
  5. Return towels to towel return bins located throughout the building.
  6. Do not block or exercise near emergency exits.
  7. Do not exercise on the carpet on the main floor or basement.
  8. Dumbbells, barbells, plates, and kettlebells must remain on rubberized flooring (cannot use on carpet) on the main floor and cannot be taken to top floor. Machines shall not be moved.
  9. Personal training services may ONLY be performed by KU Recreation Services trainers. NO outside personal training.
  10. The use of loud or offensive language or music is not permitted.  
  11. Please report broken or malfunctioning equipment immediately to staff.
  12. If you are unaware of the proper usage of equipment, please ask.
  13. Equipment may not be modified or used in a way in which it was not designed.
  14. Olympic style power lifts including hang clean, clean and jerk, split jerk, power snatch, jump shrug, high pull and loaded jump squats are prohibited.
  15. The use of a spotter in heavy lifts is encouraged. Please ask staff for a spot.
  16. Maintain control of weights at all times: slamming, dropping and throwing of weights and/or equipment could damage the facility, equipment, or injure bystanders.
  17. Weight collars are required for free weight lifts utilizing bars.
  18. Please return equipment to appropriate storage areas and racks.
  19. Please remain at least five feet away from mirrors or walls.
  20. Please vacate weight machines between sets. Allow others to "work in" if you are performing more than one set.
  21. Maximum time limit on cardio equipment is 30 minutes during peak hours.
  22. Machines may not be reserved in advance; unattended machines are considered open.
  23. Please be courteous to others. Recreation Services staff have the authority in rule interpretation and enforcement. Failure to comply with any of the policies may result in temporary or permanent loss of use privileges.
  24. Chalk is prohibited.
  25. Listen to music using headphones.  Audible music that others can hear is prohibitted. 
  26. Taking pictures and videos (even selfies) are prohibited without prior approval from Recreation Services.
