FAQs - Sport Clubs
A University of Kansas Sport Club is a registered student organization recognized by the Sport Club council and formed by individuals with a common interest and desire to participate in a sport or recreational activity that is non-sedentary and involves rigorous physical exertion. Clubs may be competitive, recreational or instructional in nature, or may have any combination of these characteristics. Sport Clubs are administratively supported by KU Recreation Services; however, there is an emphasis on student leadership as the clubs are student-organized, student-managed, and student-operated.
Yes, and it depends on the club. For those clubs that do not travel to competitions, dues are typically very low: $20-$50 per semester. For those clubs that travel extensively or have large equipment costs, they can be up to several hundred dollars per semester. Most of our clubs will try to defray costs to the individual members by doing different fundraising events throughout the year.
Every club is open to any KU student, faculty or staff member regardless of skill level although some clubs may have a traveling team that consists of higher level members. With our instructional clubs, new members are encouraged to better themselves at their own pace!
Most of the clubs that travel do so on a regional basis to compete against sport clubs from other universities. A few of our clubs will travel on a national level and have traveled to such places as Utah, Arizona, Texas, Louisiana, Massachusetts, and Florida.

Most of the clubs practice on campus in the Ambler Student Recreation Fitness Center, Shenk Field Complex, or Robinson Center. We also have several clubs that practice at different facilities in and around Lawrence that are specific to their sport.
For the most part, our clubs are coached by their members, but on occasion, they may have a volunteer coach and in some circumstances their coach may be partially compensated.
