The Chalk Rock FAQs
The climbing wall is located on the bottom floor of the Ambler Student Recreation Fitness Center in Room #1. When you enter the Ambler SRFC, check-in at the front desk and then make your way downstairs. Once downstairs, turn right, walk down the hallway, and enter through the glass doors. All climbers will also check-in at this location to climb the wall.
The only requirements are to sign a waiver and show a valid KU ID. If you would like to become belay certified, classes are offered for free during certain times. You can register ahead of time or sign up upon arrival. These belay skills classes only take a short amount of time.
No cost involved for members of ASRFC. Harnesses and climbing shoes are provide for free.
The climbing wall is available for special events, for further inquiries please contact Outdoor Pursuits Program at 785-864-1843 for availability and pricing.
Outdoor Pursuits does not check out harnesses, but climbing shoes are available for daily, weekend, and weekly rates.
You do not have to have any previous knowledge to climb in our gym. We have extremely knowledgeable and well trained staff to assist you with any questions or concerns that you might have.
Yes, you can use your own equipment. Upon check in climbers with their own equipment must present it to one of the staff members for a safety check.
Since the climbing wall is only open to those with an ASRFC membership, members may sponsor a guest. To do so, follow these instructions:
- The member and guest, who must be 18 years or older, should check-in at ASRFC's front desk, so that the guest can pay for a day pass.
- Then the member and guest can go down the climbing wall to sign a climbing wall waiver, obtain shoes, harnesses, etc., and start climbing/bouldering.
Notes
- The guest must remain with their sponsor. For example, both must be at the climbing wall and the sponsor is responsible for their guest. Review additional guest policies prior to arrival.
