Retirees/Affiliates


  • KU Retirees are eligible to purchase a membership to the Ambler Student Recreation Fitness Center. Verification of status will occur prior to activation of membership. Retirees must bring KU Photo ID with them.
  • KU Retirees are eligible for a one-time one-week trial at no charge.

Individuals who are Considered Affiliates: Individuals that fall into one of the categories below are considered affiliates of the University of Kansas.

Affiliates

Individuals who serve KU as affiliates primarily in instructional capacities without compensations from KU. Includes ROTC adjunct faculty.

Sample Working Title: Visiting Professor

Individuals who serve KU as affiliates in a research capacity without compensation from KU. Research must be in collaboration with KU researchers. Appointment is up to one year unless an exception is granted by the Office of Research.

Sample Working Title: Visiting Scientist/Research Associate; Visiting Scientist/Research Assistant; Post-Doctorate; Research Associate; Fellowship Recipients (Post Bass); Scholarship Recipients

Employees of KU Medical Center who perform additional administrative, research, or instructional duties to KU Lawrence which require KUL services.

Regular employees (non-students positions) of affiliated corporations who provide services to KU and who receive some administrative services from KU. Recognized corporations include the KU Alumni Association; Kansas Athletics, Inc.; KU Endowment Association; KU Health System, Kansas Memorial Unions; Hilltop Child Development Center; and Reserve Officers Training Corps (ROTC).

Employees of KU Lawrence who perform additional, affiliate services to KU primarily in an instructional capacity without additional compensation for that services.  Appointment may be made for up to three fiscal years.

Employees of KU Lawrence who perform additional, affiliate services to KU primarily in research capacity without additional compensation for that services.  Research must be in collaboration with KU researchers.  Appointment may be made for up to three fiscal years.

Retired, unclassified faculty or staff who continue association with KU as affiliates and who have received official designation by the Provost’s Office as Emeritus.

Persons employed by a denomination or religious body for the expressed purpose of the advisement of campus religious organizations and individuals employed by recognized Panhellenic organizations as House Directors.

Retired faculty or staff of regular employees of affiliated corporations.  They retain the title and appointment department of their former employment.

Retired faculty or staff who have not be designated as “emeritus”.  They retain the title and appointment department of their former employment.

Visiting scholars employed at other institutions of higher education and individuals approved by KU leadership to provide specialized, supportive functions who serve KU on a term basis without compensation from KU.  Contact HRM before using Specialized Support.  Appointment is up to one year.
